UM 18.04 Battery life

Hi everyone,

since upgrading from 16.04 to 18.04 the estimated time of my battery has
reduced about 1/3 to 1/2.

With UM 16.04 my battery lasted about 3,5 hours. When I check the
remaining time, by clicking on the battery symbol, now the time is under 2 hours.

Thanks for any help.

One change could be that tlp, which helps improve battery life, is no longer included by default. You could try installing it like I have. (It does now install a mail server, one of the reasons it is not included, so watch for the config questions.)

I had it installed in UM 16.04 and just upgraded to 18.04.
So it is still installed and the repos are still functional.
I just started tlp via terminal and hope this might help.

Thanks for your help.

Was there anything specific you needed to do after installing tlp? Or was it as simple is sudo apt-get install tlp? Just wondering because I’ve been experiencing much lower battery life after installing 18.04 as well.

I just tried to restart tlp in ubuntu mate 18.04 but it has no effect on the battery life.

When i installed it while using UM 16.04 i followed the instructions on the link below:

Well, smaller screen on notebook or netbook - longer battery life
Also level of brightnes is in the game.

But, where are the SOLAR NETBOOKS anyway?

My laptop and energy saving settings are the same as under UM 16.04.

I think I wait if any further updates bring improvement.

After a little investigation I found this SOLAR LAPTOP :sun_with_face:

And it's Ubuntu friendly (look at the OS on the screen) :ubuntu_mate:

This is the nature friendly technology I want to hear about...
I refuse to change older netbook because it still working and finish the job
Throwing out the computer or mobile phone just to be in the commercial trends is disaster for the Mother Nature.

As a kid I had the only one question after using the solar calculator for the first time in my life:
"What shall we do when we discharge the Sun because of powering the solar calc?"
My father just laughed

EDIT:

the SOL houses an Intel Atom D2500 1.86 GHz Duo Core processor with an Intel 945GSE chipset. Users will have access to 320 GB of HDD storage as well as 2–4 GB of DDRIII SDRAM, depending on what the buyer chooses. The whole computer has been optimized with Ubuntu in mind and comes pre-loaded with a suite of productivity tools, but WeWi has stated that another OS can be installed if needed.

Well... it's just a bit better then my actual Samsung NC10 in use
Same graphic card so use it with 18.04 because 16.04 have bad drivers for this model

Paying for the electricity is a civilization stupidity, belive me (actually it's free as the air we breathe)

That seems to be really a great laptop.

I share your opinion about using electrical devices until they are not usable any more.
I use an 8 year old acer laptop and would buy only an used laptop when my current is broken.

But since you showed me this one I could imagine to buy a solar driven laptop.
