I right clicked on top panel to add an app and the add dialog is not there. How do I get them back and add apps? I am using Cupertino panel. I am able to add on any other panel. Any help would be appreciated.

Cupertino layout has global menu applet in top panel, which auto-expands and occupies all free space. So, when you try to interact with top panel, you interact with this applet instead. Try to click three dots, unlock this applet and move it to the right side to clear area on your panel.
After that you'll be able to add all necessary applets to your panel, rearrange them and lock the applets back.
