Love Ubuntu Mate but having an ongoing issue that's an irritant.
Initially (after installing), I would attempt to wake laptop up and could not get the cursor to appear in the password box. It would simply freeze. I would click in side the box in an attempt to get it and nothing would appear and I would have to restart.
Now, I sometimes do not see the login screen at all and it's simply black. Once again, having to to a hard restart.
Any help is appreciated. Using Lenovo G50.
What version of Ubuntu MATE?

I installed the proprietary ATI Radeon driver (not the updates version) and
it seems to have corrected the issue.

We are almost 5 years later.
The exact same problem happens to me but only from time to time or when the suspend is for a 'long' period of more then say an hour. And it's not regular.
Same thing. I can't get the cursor to appear in the password box and have to restart.
I am on UM 20.04 on a HP Spectre. All else is well.
