Unexpected Brisk menu

Hello,
When I press the Super (Windows) key, the Brisk menu opens itself. Which wouldn’t be an issue if I actually had it in my panel.

Is there a built-in feature in Ubuntu MATE (17.10) that auto-loads the Brisk menu even though it’s not added to any panel? How can I get rid of it? I’d like to set my Super key to a Compiz option.

EDIT: ok, I just killed the process and got rid of it. I still can’t set the Super key in CCSM for the Exposé Compiz plugin. I have the MATE Advanced menu in my panel and I’ve tried to change its hotkey but no luck. Does MATE filter the Super key in some way?

Hi @terzag. Just something I saw when I got fancy with panels in the past. I suddenly lost some applets BUT they were still active. It was like they were running but not in the panel display area.

Long story short, resetting/changing panels got it back in sync. I was never able to reproduce it but it sounds very close to what you describe. I have to have Super for compiz Zoom.

I switched panels layouts earlier because of a bug before setting my own custom one back. I guess that might have loaded the Brisk applet at some point and didn't remove it properly? I'll see if it comes back by itself after a reboot.

You mean the Enhanced Zoom Desktop plugin? I checked if it had Super set as a shortcut but that's not the case. I haven't found a way to make it work for the Expo plugin: I can set it but nothing happens when I press the key. Using a combination (e.g. Super + space) works. Other keys like ² without a modifier work too. Not sure if there's a bug in the Expo plugin or if the Super key alone is already set as a shortcut somewhere else.

I did some looking at a 17.10 VM. Does the Brisk menu actually pop up from nowhere?

Yes, Enhanced Zoom Desktop for my old eyes is a must and Super is the key of choice and I think the default in 10.04. Ancient I know.

Before I killed the process, it appeared in the top left corner of the screen. Even if there was no panel there. And for some reason, it had a slightly different layout as it showed the search bar at the top. If I added the applet to the panel and pressed Super, both menus would open, the "ghost" one and the new one (which had the search bar at the bottom).
