Unreadable screen when installing 14.04.2 14.10

Hallo everybody

When i install ubuntu mate 14.10 or 14.04.2 I am getting a unreadable screen. It looks like a small resolution stretched out to 1080x1920. I made screen shot of it but that gave a clear 1080x1920 output. Strange?

my machine specs are
I7 3770
nvidia gti 660ti
32GB mem

btw everthing work normal with 14.04.1

Try to jump to a tty - ctrl-alt-f2 then go back by doing ctrl-alt-f7 . I used to get buggered up on another distro at login screen and that little trick helped… if not, I pass you on to those more knowledgeable than I :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Well I’ll be darned,
This works. Resolution is not ok but it is readable again.
Thanks a lot

No Problem, you can now possibly try to install the proprietary nvidia driver.

You can goto system menu, Administration, ubuntu software center.

Once software center opens, select edit, then software sources on the bottom.

Then last tab will be additional drivers…you should be able to select Nvidia driver from there.

With Nvidia GPU’s, the best thing to do when booting from the Live CD is to press F6 and select the “nomodeset” option, as I have noticed that Nvidia GPU’s don’t always play nice with Ubuntu! (I have a GeForce GT 430 myself).

As for the drivers, I always install the “nvidia-current” package ( = “nvidia-304”) even though there are higher variants of the drivers available!.

Thanks,
When Ubuntu is installed I always use the stable driver from edgers ppa
