Unresponsive desktop 18.04 after more than 30 min idle time

Hi,

Is anyone else having problems with an unresponsive desktop after a long idle time. The screen wakes and mouse moves and keyboard lights change when pressed but the desktop is totally unresponsive. Ctrl+Alt+t does not bring up a terminal either ? Reboot is the only fix.

maybe once in a while but not commonly, not enough that I notice it much

This is happening every time the screen goes off and stays off. Re-activate within 5 mins and its all good.

Hi @ZebedeeBoss,

do you have suspend active?, that would normally cause problems for me which is why I don’t use it?. :smiley:

Sorry, been mental busy at work. No I only have screen off after 10 mins. but even if I don’t have that on it still does it

I am beginning to think it might be my monitor at fault ? or the latest nvidia-drivers 396

Hi @ZebedeeBoss,

try changing your software sources download location and see if it fixes the problem, you may have something missign on your system?:

Even on a brand new install it is still doing it. It does not do it on Xubuntu or Kubuntu Flavours :frowning:

This was my second big shock after fresh installing.
I dont want to repeat my personal spam story, but try this

open system terminal and type:
dconf reset -f /

in my case - 99% things were fixed after restarting

Desperation took hold and I re-installed yesterday. Got up this morning; moved the mouse and a few seconds later the screen woke up… Don’t ya just H8 computing sometimes.

Thanks to everyone who tried to assist. It is appreciated and to Vladimr75. Apologies I never got back to you but the dconf command did not resolve the issue on the previous install. Topic marked as Resolved.
