i am wondering why firefox isn´t updated to version 65.0.1 yet? According to ubuntu package updates it was released on Feb 15th. Is it normal that its delayed for Ubuntu Mate in the update manager? Its not automatically listed in my manager and 65.0 is still running.
I just moved from "normal" ubuntu 18.04 to Ubuntu Mate 18.04, that´s why i am asking.
Running apt-cache policy firefox on the terminal and checking on the Internet, the latest version is 65.0 that's available for Ubuntu. I don't see 65.0.1 version referenced anywhere.
I am no pro and still learning, so i hope i got that right. I found this information on ubuntuupdates.org, where it says the ppa for mozilla security was updated to 65.0.1 for ubuntu. A german newspaper (heise.de) let to the idea, there i read, that 65.0.1 should be available for update.
Maybe i am really getting something wrong?
PPA is another deal wholly, where someone (who's part of the community) has "personally" packaged some software to use. That's why you're seeing the Firefox latest version there, because PPAs generally supply the "latest" version of a software.
The Firefox that's installed in your system doesn't come from any PPA, rather it comes from Ubuntu's repository, the one you access when installing software with apt-get install or via programs like Software Boutique.
Since PPAs aren't anything "official", you should be cautious when using their packages.
