I updated to 16.10 over the weekend, and unfortunately must report a serious bug.
MY MATE PANEL LOST ITS TRANSPARENCY!!!
I had to spend a whole, like, 20 seconds putting it right…
Seriously, kudos to the whole team involved in rolling this out, the fact that this is the only thing which went wrong speaks volumes for the high quality of this distro.

Within a few moments I decided to give the upgrade to 16.10, offered by the system, a try. Well, it took a long time (about 1600 files were upgraded), but everything works fine. 16.10 is better. That’s Ubuntu Mate. Out of the box, great work. I know, the look of the desktop is a matter of taste. For me it is just fine. It’s easy to find what I am looking for, a really intuitive setup, and lots of possibilities to create a personal desktop. As mentioned above Mate’s advantage is its lean effectiveness in a positive manner. Right now people tend to think that huge dekstop fireworks and a ton of effects are a sign of quality. But what of it do we really need?
