Using my RPI 2 as a VPN

Hi I want to use my laptop (that has Mate on it) THROUGH the tunnel that the RPI can make using openvpn. I have followed all the tutorials successfully to the point of having the server side RPI vpn setup.

I want the ability to surf anonymously on the net on my laptop. Could someone please tell me what my setup should look like? I don’t really know how to go about physically setting up what I need. Right now my RPI is hooked to an ethernet wire coming from my modem/router so it has the ability to go on the internet, and an HDMI cable going to a monitor so I can see the MATE Gui. My laptop is just on wireless.

Is this the correct setup to do what I would like to do? Or am I missing the point on how all of this should be connected? Thanks.

Your VPN won't help you, this is not what a VPN does.

Even if you connect your laptop to your RPI's VPN, packets egressing from your network will still carry the IP of your home router.

You should look up Tor Browser (It's in the software boutique) for your anonymity needs.

So what does a RPI vpn do?

A VPN establishes a logical layer on top of an existing network.
Basically that means that two computers connected to the same VPN server can access each others as though they were in the same LAN, even if they are in fact on two different continents and separated by 1500 routers.

It says that the Tor Browser is not available in the Software Botique.

Have you subscribed to Welcome updates?
Maybe Tor Browser was added after the release, and you’re not seeing it because the Boutique application is not up to date.
Go to System -> Welcome, and check “Subscribe” in the top right corner.

I found out that Tor is not anonymous for torrenting so I guess I will go a different route. Let me ask you one more question? If my RPI vpn won’t let me torrent anonymously, then how would a paid vpn service allow me to do so? Or is it the same with a paid vpn service, that it wouldn’t do what I am wanting to do? Thanks.
