Video in Skype is flickering with a blue background

Hello,

I bought a webcam to sykpe with my mother and sister who are living far away.
But when i start skypeing with one of they the video output on my system is flickering blue (after enabling video-chat).
On the other side my partie can see me good and there are no problems.

So i testet it on Ubuntu MATE 16.10. There it works fine, no problems.

I installed Skype via Ubuntu MATEs Software Boutique

This is my System:

System: Host: xxxxx Kernel: 4.4.0-45-generic x86_64 (64 bit) Desktop: MATE 1.12.1
           Distro: Ubuntu 16.04 xenial
Machine: Mobo: MSI model: Z170I GAMING PRO AC (MS-7980) v: 1.0
           Bios: American Megatrends v: 1.70 date: 05/23/2016
CPU: Quad core Intel Core i5-6500 (-MCP-) cache: 6144 KB
           clock speeds: max: 3600 MHz 1: 800 MHz 2: 800 MHz 3: 800 MHz 4: 800 MHz
Graphics: Card: Intel Sky Lake Integrated Graphics
Display Server: X.Org 1.18.4 drivers: intel (unloaded: fbdev, vesa) Resolution: [email protected]
GLX Renderer: Mesa DRI Intel HD Graphics 530 (Skylake GT2) GLX Version: 3.0 Mesa 11.2.0
Webcam: Logitech C922

By the way: The webcam works fine with Cheese or vokoscreen.

My familie is using windows, so the Skype Alpha wont work.

Is there a solution for this problem?

Hi @Etamuk,

have you run your updates and/or tried any fixes in “Welcome”?:

Hello @Etamuk

Sorry to say but if your webcam works fine w/ other softwares then it’s for sure skype that is the problem.

If you R-E-A-L-L-Y are required to use skype, i would advise into deploying a windoze machine under virtualbox and/or notifying m$ (but that’s probably not give any real results in the short and medium time frame).

As usual, what happens if you boot using another distro in LIVE mode, install skype and give that a go?

Another thing I would suspect (if it works fine on another distro) would be your video driver but we’re going far now.

Hope this helps,

Has anyone tried this?:

This works currently only between Skype Linux Alpha users.

Skype Linux Alpha <–> Skype Linux Alpha = works
Skype Linux Alpha <–> Skype Windows = doesn’t work

Hey,

i found a solution on this page. Please see post #47. After adding this file it works fine.

(Don’t forget: After this editing you have to reboot your system)

Perhaps this is also useful for other users with Skylake graphics.
