VLC is all I use but it has lots of quirks I live with. I would never say it was stable.
For example…
I setup a hotkey to force-copy an old config file because it still remembers MAXIMIZED when a video closes in FULL-SCREEN. If any VLC developers are reading this:
Used to be a big fan of it until I went from a ATI to Nvidia card and the display dissapeared. I have since then replaced it by SMPlayer which seems to be equally rich in feature but I am not a big user of videos (Less than 10x a month).
I’ve also rarely had issues with it in windoze environments and still deploy it to my customers whenever needed.
I prefer Kodi with it’s wide variety of plugins and sharper, higher quality playback. I’ve had troubles off and on playing DVDs, so VLC is my fall-back media player. Overall, it’s been solid and robust, playing anything I throw at it–with the exception of the nightly builds of VLC 3, but that’s not altogether unexpected.
