Will upgrading from 17.10 to 18.04 overwrite my current video driver?

I was able to install the Nvidea Legacy driver through the Additional Drivers panel in 17.10 but it wasn’t offered in 18.04 beta 2. (The nouveau driver generated many faults and crashed my system repeatedly).

Q: When upgrading from 17.10 to 18.04 will the process overwrite my current Nvidia legacy driver which works flawlessly.

Q: If so, would there be a way to install it anyway…even if not showing up in additional drivers?

Q: If yes would this driver even work considering it’s not offered in the new OS?

Any insight greatly appreciated…

Hi @LoRider,

if it isn’t showing in 18.04, you will need to stick with the onboard drivers as it won’t install any legacy drivers for you. Mine runs fine with the onboard drivers but my drivers are listed so I installed them. Try it out, if you try and install any legacy drivers, you may well break the system?.

Wait until 18.04 goes final before trying it!.

Hey Wolfman

Ok will keep running 17.10 until the release of Bionic and hope those drivers become available.

Thanks again…
