Window Manager Options with Nvidia Drivers in 17.10

Hope I didn’t miss an already posted answer when I searched. If so, apologies.

Just did fresh install of UM 17.10 and find that with:

  • Nouveau Driver: I have a choice of 4 window managers - Marco (No Compositor, Software, or Compton) and Compiz
  • Nvidia Proprietary Driver: Only 2 choices - Marco with Software or no compositor. There are no GPU compositor options.

Is this the expected behavior for 17.10 when using Nvidia Proprietary Drivers? I don’t remember for certain, but I thought in 17.04 I had enabled Marco with Compton while using the Nvidia Propietary Drivers.

Thanks for any insights!

No it’s not the normal behaviour.
My Setup:
Menu > Control Panel > Additional Drivers
NVIDIA Corporation: GM206 [GeForce GTX 960]
Using NVIDIA binary driver - version 384.90 from nvidia-384 (propetary, tested)
Menu > Control Panel > MATE Tweak > Windows
Windows manager : Marco(No compositor), Marco(Software compositor), Marco(compton GPU compositor) & Compiz(Advanced GPU accelerated desktop effects).strong text

Using 17.10 with Pantheon. 64bit AMD.

Thanks NerdPower for taking the time to confirm this. My setup is the same as yours, except for an older GPU (GTX 750Ti [GM107]).

Using the Additional Drivers GUI, I cycled through the 384 and 340 branches, and back to Nouveau twice. On the third try activating Proprietary from the 384 branch, all 4 compositor options showed up.

Now on Marco (Compton) through several restarts, so I’ll call this fixed!
