Wondering if Ubuntu MATE will easily continue the Xorg support provided in 18.04? I know Wayland was thought to be the future of 18.04 by many, but I was really worried about third party vendors keeping up. They don’t move so fast and could easily just stick with 16.04 longer than I’d like. Schrodinger is a computational chemistry company and they have been great so far with keeping up with the LTS versions. So, I’m hoping that the MATE version will be robustly working with Xorg even though a lot of thought has gone into Wayland support. Thanks for comments!

Mate does not support Wayland, so it’s Xorg through and through
Supporting Wayland requires some pretty deep rewrites of many components of upstream MATE, so not for the short term, that’s for sure.

Stock Ubuntu 18.04 won’t be using Wayland either, they are sticking with Xorg as default for the time being!.

Yet another reason why Ubuntu Mate is the logical choice.
