So you're going to open a terminal and type mate-panel & every time you boot your computer ?
You might as well want to add that command in the startup applications. Would be less of a hassle.
If my laptop is not connected to the extra monitor, I don't have to start the panel. And, access to a terminal gives me more possibilities, like finding out why there is no panel on my desktop.
