hi
I am looking for help…
I dont whant to install the latest version of Firefox (compatibilities) … how can I stop the frequint message asking for a Firefox update. (Just “Update” is not an option. )
I had a hope that a solution is to find in " about:config
Regards Poul
You don’t give a reason for not wishing to update Firefox, but if it is to stay with the ‘classic’ version, you may wish to try Palemoon. Regularly updated for security, but none of the ‘extra’ stuff.

what mate release are you using? I have 16.04 and don’t see those messages.
In most distros like Ubuntu-MATE, the updates come from the repositories and not Firefox itself. However, if Firefox is installed in other ways (I do this with the ESR version) the Firefox updating mechanism is actively operating and can be turned off here:
Is the update the same as with other security updates (indicates distro updating)? I don't even know what an update from Firefox looks like since it's never ever set to check on any system I've run.
I’m using Firefox ESR on Ubuntu MATE for long time. The main advantage - it still supports LEGACY extensions and VLC-video plugin.
@poul48, you can read the answer on AskUbuntu for ESR installation details.
The main idea is to use Firefox ESR provided by PPA - Jonathon F’s or Mozilla Team’s.
