I tried the Google Chorme OS from this site…
It can play youtube without any video choppy problems with Google Chrome OS SBC v0.5 for raspberry pi 3. With HTML plugins.

But at this time … Google Chrome OS for Single Board Computer did not work with built in Wifi and Bluetooth.
So I do not know how come Ubuntu Mate still did not work.
I submitted bugs to Launchpad.
CHROMIUM RPI 3 v0.5 Release Notes
This is the first official release for the Raspberry Pi 3. This separate image has been released in order to ensure that the Pi3 will run the system without being underclocked.
– Changes since V0.4.2: –
Audio:
- Improvements to sound driver (which should not be that noticeable but they are there)
Kernel: - Updated kernel to 4.2.8-ckt8 which was released on April 15 2016
- Removed more debugging
- Reduced kernel size further
- Dynamic ticks disabled, according to the official recommendations for BFS
- BFS tweaks for improved latency
Storage:
- BFQ hierarchical scheduling for better storage performance
- Modified ondemand scheduler to set io_is_busy for further storage performance improvements
UX:
- Better performance due to BFS finally being SMP aware, resulting in more effective CPU utilization
- Kiosk Mode fixed (please confirm)
- Other defects caused by modifying the image during release packaging fixed (please report back if this turns out not to be the case)
Video:
- Some minor updates/fixes to the VC4 GPU driver
- Fixes for some video modes - this might or might not fix your display issues on non-1080p displays and some 1080p displays
– Known limitations: –
- Wi-Fi is not supported. This includes the built-in Raspberry Pi 3 Wi-Fi which currently cannot be probed. Some Wi-Fi adapters work, but we do not offer any support for this - see: https://www.reddit.com/r/Chromiumosforsbc/comments/4g43oh/regarding_your_wifi_questions_btw_wifi_is_and/
- Netflix support (this means that it is not supported in this release either)
- HTML5 video support: you will have to rely on flash for websites that support it as an alternative to HTML5 video
We work as hard as we can to produce the best release possible and even though we try our best, somethings will just not work right. We are using open source code and compile this with our own configuration using our best knowledge - we are a young, hobbyist development team, so please be gentle. If you notice any bugs, please feel free to submit a ticket on our Sourceforge.
Known issues with build 0.5
-
Wi-Fi is still not supported. This includes the built-in Raspberry Pi 3 Wi-Fi, which currently cannot be probed. Some Wi-Fi adapters work, but we do not offer any support for this. For more information on Wi-Fi, click here!
-
Netflix still does not work at this time.
Known Issues with build 0.4.2
All restrictions regarding Wi-Fi, Netflix, RPi3 support, etc. still apply. This is simply a bugfix release we decided to release before V0.5 is ready. V0.5 will have full RPi3 support instead of just being able to run on it (meaning it will have RPI3 Wi-Fi support above everything else)
known issues with build 0.4.1
- Netflix doesn’t work (don’t ask)
- This build is for systems using Ethernet, as the RasPi doesn’t contain a Wi-Fi module and those are an optional accessory. Kindly refer to our separate guide in order to enable Wi-Fi, which might or might not work with your adapter
- Low-Fi TVs and TVs with resolutions lower than Full-HD might not work with this. This is being developed on 1080p screens which will also show a verified resolution of 1920x1080. TVs with lower resolutions often don’t work at all, sorry about that
- Regarding the above: We do not use any boot splash screens: if you get a black screen for more than one minute, you are most likely using an incompatible TV. The boot process only takes a couple of seconds, so there is no need waiting for longer than roughly a minute for it to boot
- YouTube 4K HFR videos don’t run perfectly without stutters: The RaspberryPi2 might be the wrong device for this (HD videos in full screen are now running smoothly for the most part, while still showing the occasional stutter)
- If you don’t ensure you can connect to the Internet, then you won’t have the date/time set automatically: This is not a bug, this is just a reminder in order to guarantee that you are connected via Ethernet when turning the device on, in case you do not want to manually set the time
- The image doesn’t use all the space you have available on your microSD card: We have already increased the available size to 2GB of free space that is available to the user. Since we cannot afford to offer 16 or 32GB images for download and automatic resizing is technically not possible at this stage, you have the option to manually resize the relevant partition via modifying the image on a Linux-based system if you need more space than 2GB
- Automatic screen rotation doesn’t work
