Hello everybody.
I have create a bootable USB and it worked to install Ubuntu Mate (UM) on one of my computer with a nvidia graphics card. Now I wanted to install UM on my other computer with Intel 4600 graphics, but when I boot to the USB i get loading screen and then the screen goes black. I can install Ubuntu 15.04 and works fine.
Does anybody have any recommendations on how to fix this ??
Hi,
did you include any Nvidia drivers on the USB stick?, if you did, that is what is causing your problem!. You can try the following but if there are any Nvidia drivers on the stick, it won’t help unless you do a new bootable stick without drivers!. (Or maybe someone can tell you how to remove them?)
When you start the USB stick and you see this symbol:

Press any key and then F6 and select “nomodeset” and then try starting!:

Hi thanks for the quick reply and sorry for the slow replay
I don’t think I have the Nvidia driver on the USB. It’s a clean ISO from the ubuntu mate website.
This is what happens when I boot to the USB.
I get a blinking cursor on a background for about 10s and then I get the ubuntu mate logo with the loading dots below it. When it finished loading I get a black screen with nothing on it.
Thanks for the help
Hi,
go to the boot menu, press F6 and try the option “acpi=off”
hi
I don’t get the boot menu. I get blinking cursor on a background and then the ubuntu mate logo with the loading dots.
Hi,
did you pre-format the USB stick to FAT32 before you created the ISO image on the stick?.
What image writer tool did you use?.
Hi,
Yes I did and I have used Unetbootin and Universal USB Installer. It work perfectly on the other computer but just not on this one.
Hi,
what is the make and model of the computer?.
Hi,
Its a custom build. i5 4460 + Gigabyte GA-Z97-D3H + 8GB Ram + 250GB SSD. Just no graphics card because my other computer is for gaming and rendering.
without a graphics card you won't get anything regardless which version of Linux you throw on the machine!.
I managed to install ubuntu 15.10 without the graphics card (I am using the onboard graphics ). I guess I will just stick with ubuntu for now to 16.04 LTS comes out. Thanks for the help
Hi,
you gave us the impression there wasn’t a graphics card on the PC!. “no graphics card because my”.
You got it up and running and that is the main thing!.
