GIMP 2.10.0 on UM 18.04

I would like to install the latest GIMP version from GIMP’s site but I just upgraded to 18.04 and couldn’t risk possible bugs hindering me from working, so I was wondering…

Can anyone provide feedback on using GIMP 2.10.0 on 18.04?

I just installed it as a snap package. One benefit of the snap is that they won’t affect any other part of your system.

The snap package for 2.10.0 is still in testing, so you have to use the --edge flag:

snap install --edge gimp

I haven’t used it a lot but didn’t notice issues so far. In any case, you can go back to 2.8 if something goes wrong.

There’s a PPA that provides GIMP 2.10 if you want to get it updated automatically but there’s a conflict with a secondary package (gimp-plugin-registry) from the Ubuntu repos if you’ve installed it through the Software Boutique (or installed the package manually). See there for mroe infos: When will Gimp be updated to 2.10

How do you install GIMP as a SNAP package? I have seen references but nothing usable.

Just run

snap install gimp

(the stable is version 2.10.0 now).
