Well…That was a wash. I downloaded and installed 16.04 on my Lenovo laptop, and not only does it still not have support for my Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter as several people said it would, but now my external display doesn’t work, and there are no proprietary drivers listed to switch to…
I’ll get back to you on this as soon as I get the system up well enough to do an lspci
Thank you for that, it worked for the wifi. I’m a bit upset that in all the time I spent trying to find a fix for that issue, including upgrading the kernel to 4.2 in 14.04, nobody had that information to give.
Now I have no external display, the machine won’t even boot all the way with the external connected, and there are no alternate drivers listed.
I went from the single wifi issue in 14.04, to the same issue plus a slew of others in 16.04. I believe I’m going to reinstall 14.04 and fix that wifi issue like you’ve shown me how to do, and enjoy it until 2019.
In my estimation, 16.04 is NOT ready for release
Thanks again for your help on the wifi, I appreciate it
I used a USB as always. And I’ve removed 16.04 because it’s not ready for my computer and I don’t feel like having only one display until they get around to fixing the issue or release alternate drivers.
Now back to my one issue, no on board wifi, which wasn’t fixed by the fix outlined by v3xx, which worked in 16.04…I need the Kernel from 16.04 since the Kernel 4.2 from the LTS Enablement Stacks https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack doesn’t support my wifi either with the fix here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1436940
I’m left wondering if I should consult the Debian Wiki since their wifi section is usually pretty good because they don’t ship with wifi drivers installed for the most part, and less filled with gobbledygook coding-speak that I don’t understand
Well, you can’t always get what you want…lol, I reinstalled 16.04 without an external display, but the wifi works anyway. I’ll probably give this machine to my step-daughter for an un-birthday present, she’ll love it with it’s 16gig memory and SSD, she has no use for an external display anyway. I’ll buy another one for me that’ll do what i want. I’ll bring a 16.04 flash drive with me to Best Buy
