Hi, I have clean installed ubuntu-mate 17.10. the trouble is that when I log in, there is no taskbar/panel. I can get the log off/shutdown/restart panel by pressing my power button. I need help please. Should I reinstall the OS?

You can fix window taskbar by changing window manager back to Marco:
marco --replace
or
Use Mate Tweak app
@grebozero : in MATE tweak app, where you can choice between traditionnal, cupertino, redmond… Have you backuped (recorded) the configuration of your current panel ?
Perhaps this could help, try once.
