Apologies, I overlooked what you might set there. Instead of 'manual' set 'Automatic (DHCP) addresses only' and then you will not need to fill in any ip settings, and only the DNS servers section will need to be filled in with the 8.8.8.8.
Hopefully the command:
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 379CE192D401AB6
Will work after that.
I believe you already ran
echo "deb https://deb.etcher.io stable etcher" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/balena-etcher.list
so you dont need to run that again.
Send me a screenshot of your network settings page after changin the above so I can check you did it correctly.
The only record I have of the original DNS is on the information record. but it is the same before and after [192.168.1.1[. It does not appear to have changed???
Should just be 8.8.8.8 (no dot on the end) and you need to reboot afterwards for the settings to change or stop and start the networking. I will try later today to reproduce the issue as I am not at my PC till later, and reply back when I have tested again.
Try setting it like this and using the "enable networking" after changing it, and then "enable networking" again to turn it back on. Once you have done that is the DNS 8.8.8.8 as per my screenshot?
Bingo. Tomorrow when I do a normal update I'll know whether the update downloads as per usual or if the error message intervenes [could not download repository information - check your internet connection]

Received an anonymous 'download' when I turned on this morning [2020/02/24 +- 05h50] -ADSL modem went madly for maybe 10 seconds. Hope it it was an 'official' deposit. The update is back to faulty.
The DNS changes [8.8.8.8] appear in place.
Will I need to add the DNS 8.8.8.8 when 20.04 is released as the DNS anomaly appears hardware related?
I am familiar with the startup time once the password has been filled in and enter is pressed. There was a delay of a few seconds - maybe 7 or 8 - before anything appeared on the screen. During this blanked period there was a rapid flashing of the LED on the modem indicating 'download in progress'. T,hat lasted maybe 10 seconds after which the screen came to life normally.
This delay and download on startup is not normal. However, as 19.10 was/is 'work in progress' I ignored it - until I ran the update (my normal procedure) which brought up the error message [already sent] the reason for it appearing HAVING BEEN FIXED a week ago with Pallebone's help.
I do have a Clonezilla image from last Friday which I can reload but I don't want to mess up any testing Mate might be doing in the background
Something you can answer. I've loaded Ether successfully, it even shows in Boutique as ready run. But I cant run it. I've tried all combinations of my guess at it's name in Terminal to run it with no success.
How can I run it?
If I do an update through terminal I still hit an error on Etcher.
Apparently this is a know problem as of 7 hours ago on the project page for etcher.
