24.10 in Virtualbox

I have the following error/issue when launching the OS in a virtual machine. The broken Plymouth actually happened during the testing of 24.04 on same virtual machine. The 24.10 is a fresh install. Any way to fix this or do I download the ISO fresh and redo the VM? I have already customized my test box and really would prefer not reinstalling. I use the VM as a testbed for my customizations as well as bug finding for the Ubuntu-MATE team. Any ideas will be appreciated.

What is broken about it?? or is only that you're seeing the TEXT plymouth screen? and want to see a graphic plymouth??

Hopefully this might help

That fixed the error, Thankyou! Any idea how to get the graphic back in Plymouth start screen?

Yes, the typical startup shows a nice Ubuntu-MATE logo with the animated dots as OS is loading. The shutdown is working just fine, just not the startup Plymouth screen

I've not done much QA testing (so far) with oracular, but I have noted what feels like more text plymouth screens than graphic so far this cycle...

At this stage I've just ignored it, partially as I'm yet to find time to regularly boot dailies, plus on my various boxes I always have some boot with text plymouth, where others boot with graphic (using same daily/thumb-drive; when I QA test more regularly I tend to remember which text booting is common, which currently I can't recall), but also as we're not yet on the actual kernel of the system, and have so much yet to occur; I've not been worried.

I'll watch for it more in the future though...

But my 2c is is Ubuntu-MATE is the same as Ubuntu Desktop, & Lubuntu this cycle where I've noted the same. I'm also booting on hardware (not VM), but sorry I have no ideas.

cool. I have been ignoring it and did post as a bug, in case it's not just me with this issue. It happened near the beginning of the launch of 24.04 and continued on to 24.10, even though it was a fresh install. Plymouth updated last week, but sigh... the issue remained. It has not been picked up as a bug as of today

I see it (Bug #2066055 “Plymouth start up missing image and text is wrong” : Bugs : Ubuntu MATE)

If you record your QA testing (installs, live testing etc) on the ISO QA tracker (https://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/) I'll suggest you tag that bug so it can be tracked (ie. so there are records of when & which dailies it was noted as occurring on).

The bug has not been recorded as occurring with any specific daily; no apport details exist on the report, and no links to the ISO QA tracking site that I can see.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu [MATE] better.
