A Big Thank You - Along with a Query regarding Intelligent Hiding (Intellihide) for Top Panel

As I round out my 2nd month on U-MATE, I find that there is nothing compelling which has made my user experience anything less than stellar. It is no secret that this community driven project is re-carving out the substantial niche which GNOME 2 once occupied; as Ubuntu MATE welcomes back disillusioned Unity refugees, while nurturing the needs of newbies and gurus, alike.

In these first six months of distro-hopping, in which Linux has been this newbie’s new work/grad-school production ally, nothing has performed more faithfully than Ubuntu MATE; that is why I am staying put. Ubuntu + MATE = “Just Works” - and only after two rigorous months can I claim this. Indeed, my whole family wishes to thank you all - for this pragmatic and stand-up OS, and for the unbeatable community that comes with it.

If I was granted three wishes from you guys, I could still only think of one: Intelligent Hiding (Intellihide) for the Top Panel. Ubuntu Unity has the feature I am speaking of; and it does differ in function, for me, from the auto-hide feature which I am presently utilizing with U-Mate. Intellihide just flows beautifully with everything from surfing to word processing - at least the one in Ubuntu Unity did.

Well, out of a half dozen distros I tried, prior to finding my home here, this is all I was able to glean - worthy enough to bring up for suggestion. Incidentally, I have found threads on other sites - speaking of various Linux distros, where they made this same request; so I am thinking it is a rare jewel to have this function on a top panel. Nevertheless, U-MATE is close to perfect, either way.

Thank you again, for all you do!

Hi mated,

right click the top panel > properties > "Autohide" (intellihide by another name!):

@wolfman

Not the same: re-read that part of my post… :wink:

For illistration, our Plank Dock, here in U-MATE, has both the Autohide and the Intellihide setting… because they, indeed, function wholly differently :cold_sweat:; check it out - you’ll see… they are, essentially, the opposite of each other

I suppose the difference could be thought to be subtle enough - if one did not come straight from Unity. :innocent:

@mated,

sorry but I thought they were the same thing?. :confused:

No problem @mated , I always thought that Autohide/Intellihide were one and the same, I just learned something and will file it under new stuff!, I will have to vacate a space in my head and throw out some of the old stuff though!. :smiley:

I just turned 50, @wolfman; so I am having to now vacate space in my head and throw out some of the old stuff more and more - as well as “defrag” from time-to-time :joy:

This Intellihide function is not frivolous candy, though… it is an addictive asset of our Mother Ubuntu. :hushed:
