A cross-between Yaru and TraditionalOk? Presenting Yaru ok -- Now an Official MATE Theme!

Long time user of TraditionalOK. I'm an old geezer and prefer the traditional look and feel. Thank you @Frieder_Saugschmerle for providing a pathway to GTK4 for this theme.

The biggest "problem for gtk4 is that they chganged the entrie code structure again in libadwaita. Currently im waiting until it gets fully stable. Early gtk4 worked fine before libadwaita but now im waiting a bit how adwaita progresses. However since its already on scss and adwaita is scss too , it should be posssible to solve a lot with copy and paste.

I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu MATE 24.04 (clean disk in a VM), and I can't find the YaruOK theme. Per this discussion, YaruOK is my favorite theme (as was TraditionalOK before it. Has this theme been dropped starting with 24.04? Any way for me to install it myself outside of a package?

[EDIT] My apologies, this is user error. All I had to do was install package mate-themes, and YaruOk was available.

Hello @guyr,

I recently installed my UbuntuMATE 22.04 and it is there.

If you look at the GitHub repository,

I believe you can just drop those branches into an appropriately name folder (YaruGreen or YaruOK), under

/usr/share/themes/

then use the Appearance utility to select as required.

Hello @Frieder_Saugschmerle,

Your last submission on GitHub, and submits on the site claiming to be master, was before your last posting here.

Does that mean that the GTK4 code, which is in the repository, is "unstable" or "unworkable"?

@ericmarceau, yes, that theme is in 22.04, and I use it. Notice my post mentions 24.04, which just came out recently. That is the release that is missing YaruOK.

Thanks.

Hello @guyr,

I did notice your mention of version 24.04.

What I outlined still applies as a method to roll in what they have as a theme, directly from the GitHub repository, if they can confirm that the theme itself is 24.04-ready, even if not rolled out as part of the official release for some reason (possible oversight?). I tried that myself for another theme, but that one appears to have definite issues.

According to this other posting, GTK4 has been out since 2020, so it is possible that the gtk4-compatible version is good to go.

Also, the tracker site messaging for the gtk-4.0 doesn't seem to have anything that says that the gtk-4.0 "components" have been "bumped off" for bugs or other technical issues.

But I agree it would be a go/no-go criterion to get an actual confirmation from either of @Frieder_Saugschmerle or @raveit65.

Link for YaruOK should be:

The gtk4 code was written for an early Gtk4 release while libadwaita was not as present as it is now. Problem is adwaita changes relatively fast and my free time is now more limited.

Gtk3 Yaru ok-/green runs of course on 24.04.

@Frieder_Saugschmerle This was my mistake, see the update to my post. Thanks very much for providing YaruOk in Ubuntu MATE.

Hi everyone

For added clarity: when @guyr wrote the following in his last reply in this topic - "A cross-between Yaru and TraditionalOk? Presenting Yaru ok -- Now an Official MATE Theme! - #32 by guyr" :

... he was referring to the following earlier reply:

... and specifically he was referring to the following "[EDIT]" in that reply:
