Alt-Tab switcher from Unity on MATE+Compiz?

Hi all,

Does anyone have thoughts on somehow installing the Application Switcher from Unity on MATE? I see that on vanilla Ubuntu 16.04, it’s visible in CompizConfig Settings Manager under the Ubuntu Unity Plugin -> Switcher tab.

It’s my absolute favorite switcher of all the DEs I’ve ever tried because it supports:

  1. Per-application switching AND per-window switching unified in an elegant way
  2. Arrow keys (press ALT, press TAB, release TAB, use arrow keys to select, release ALT to confirm)
  3. Mouse clicks to select an application/window

I’ve tried the Compiz Application Switcher and Static Application Switcher, and while they’re usable, neither one is quite my cup of tea.

Is there any way to install the Ubuntu Unity Compiz plugin, at least the switcher part of it, in the MATE desktop? I’m not a hardcore developer but am comfortable compiling from source and editing existing code. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Matt
