Alternate way to transfer files to my hard drive

I would like to be able to transfer movies or pictures without having to take the card out and attach my card reader to copy files using Thunar(file manager).

Here is a pic of my connections of my Canon camera.

I looked at the manual and could not understand part of it.

I have all the Canon supplied cables.

Could someone help me?

Thanks.

It was explained to me why a lot of folks are down on life.\

I feel pretty happy.

If anyone is interested in why I am happy, please send me a PM.

You can use VLC to transfer from the camera.

How would that work?

I need some details please.

Maybe you can try using that USB port and then plug it to your computer. I suppose you'd be able to see your files in VLC or in Caja if that works.

Just use a USB cable to connect the camera to the computer.

Thanks GeekBone.

I do not have that cable.

I will need to do a cost to benefit analysis.

Price of that cable compared to my current method.

See my post to GeekBone.

Providing specific details of the Model of your video camera would help.

There is no port that allows recording from a "video input" because all the video-related ports are for output-only.

On that picture, only one port is capable of "data transfer" in or out: the USB port.

So ... unavoidable, purchasing a cable with "Mini USB2" (confirm that in your manual; at camera end) and USB ??? at computer end is required.

If you have something like a "Dollar Store" down there, you can probably get one for below 5 buckaroos!

Sorry, Andy. Just re-read your subject line.

... transfer TO drive, not FROM drive.

So, if you have an HDMI interface on your computer, you could set your computer's video record function to take input from the HDMI interface, play the video on your camera and create the video that way.

Also, if that "AV OUT" port is 3.5 mm port and you have a dedicated video card that has a similar port for video input, then you are in luck. Again, set your computer's record function to take input from that port, play the video on your camera, and create the video file.

I can not find Mini USB2. Seems like stores do not think Android phones worth carrying cables for.

My opinion is that Apple is overpriced and can do nothing more than my Android can do for 1/2 the price.

My daughter who owns an apple phone and apple watch says that when Apple comes out with a new phone, the older phones get slower, thus making customers buy a newer Apple phone.

If someone wants to buy an Apple phone and they are happy with it, so am I.

I found a new Mini USB2 at a store that sells used computer equipment. It seems the industry has relegated that standard format to the bins of history. So, support (meaning gettings spares) is getting very hard to come by! :frowning:

I agree and I ruined a Samsung tablet because I didn't know about USB C at the time and plugged a micro-USB into it. The plugs are very small and hard to see the difference if you are not looking for them.

Then you have updated ones for transfer speeds.

I still have mini-USB's on cameras and my Garmin GPS. I tend to save cables on whatever I throw out in case I ruin one and need the spare.
