I love the Ambiant-MATE-Dark theme except when I'm trying to work in Google Docs with Firefox.
In the picture below there are two troublesome areas.
-
The Document Title: The background is almost black, and the title text is a washed out gray which makes the title hard to read. It gets worse if you click into the Document Title box the text and cursor turn black if you try to edit the title.
-
Search bar in "Explore": I have typed into the search bar "this is a test", but the background is white with the text also being a shade of white only a tad darker.
Is this a theme bug, or do I need to make an adjustment in Firefox when I apply the Ambiant-MATE-Dark theme? If it is truly a bug I will log it into Launchpad, but I wanted to ask first.

I absolutely agree with you
The theme is attractive and looks professional
But working with LibreOffice is difficult because of black color
I have also returned to the traditional look
and with a light theme

I also have noticed this so I switched to Numix which seems to be working well I just wish there was numix dark

I got this kind of problems too, font color same as background, and because i liked the theme i spend few hours to custom it and be able to read whatever button or fields.
It is not anymore the pure ambiant-mate theme but at least now i can read everything, though some app react strangely like Evolution is not dark but light blue, but that's ok for me.
So you might need to tweak few things
screenshot are my tweaks (controls and colors made it readable everywhere as well as the icons from Obsidian)
.
As for libroffice i use a theme from LO which fit well the U-M theme and all is readable

This is an application-specific problem (bug), not an OS problem. This happens when some system color settings are allowed to “bleed through” into the colors and fonts used for the application, but they don’t match other hard-coded colors and fonts.
Applications that run in a browser are doubly susceptible to this problem as it is unlikely that the developer tested with the specific Ubuntu Mate color schemes that are problematic. Also, you may notice a difference in behavior between Chrome, Firefox, and other browsers. Because of limitations of browsers, there may not be much the developer can do about it anyway.
Probably the easiest solution has been stated in an earlier comment. Pick a theme that doesn’t have this problem.
