Any review/feedback on Entroware desktop PCs?

Hi all,

After years of having exclusively laptops, I am considering going back to a desktop for my next PC.
I looked at http://linuxpreloaded.com/ and since I live in Europe (The Netherlands) I am not considering US-based companies like System76 (due to import taxes).
Of course our UK-based partner Entroware first came to my mind, and I am thinking of the Nyx desktop with the following configuration.
Only trouble is: I did not find much reviews of Entroware PCs, and only for their Appolo or Proteus laptops.
Any one has personal feedback about their desktops in the particular the Nyx?
Or personal opinions of quality/price ratio?

Thanks,
Spleenico

EDIT: I use my PC mainly for non very heavy tasks such as office work, photo edition, but I want something decent for a few Steam games once in a while.
Important is good linux compatibility of component (quite disappointed with my Dell XPS13 developer edition: once I moved from the originally installed Ubuntu 12.04 OS, I got wifi issues for a while, and now of graphic drivers. That's not what I expected from a linux laptop).

You might want to contact them first to make sure they’ll ship to The Netherlands. I know they are just getting setup for European shipping but don’t know what countries are available. Please check

I have an HP Compaq Presario (oldish now) that runs Linux no problem, HP have good Linux support and I am sure you can find a model in the Netherlands without having to pay import duties!.

Good point. I am used to order stuff from Amazon UK but indeed it does not mean Entroware ships outside Albion.
Will check if I indeed want to order fromm them. Thanks.

Thanks for your feedback Wolfman.
I’m having a look at Ubuntu’s certified hardware page. They indeed mention quite a lot of HP mention, as well as for Dell, and to a lesser extent, Lenovo and Asus.
Whether it is possible to order these PCs without having to purchase windows will be another story…

Just search for “Barebones” PC’s from your national sellers like eBay or Amazon and there must be other companies in Holland!.

Hallo Spleenico

If it doesn’t work out with Entroware…

I’m currently preparing the questions that I want to ask the company “tuxedo computers” (Germany), as my next desktop may well be one of theirs. I haven’t made a final decision yet, but they do seem to know what they’re about and the range of machines is impresive. My particular wishes include no secure-boot, very low noise, four cores, and probably an i5 chip. I will be asking them about installing the OS on an M2 SSD and the data on a seperate drive as I don’t know that I could master installing this configuration myself (I’ve been using linux for two and a half years, and have not gotten that far yet). They offer a number of distro’s that they will pre-install, UM is not yet one of them - but I will be asking!

Even if you don’t speak German, I imagine that if you write to them in English they should be able to answer your enquiry.

They do deliver to Holland:

Here are two video links that you might find interesting:

Hewlet Packard: I’ve never seen a bad HP computer. Not one.
Hope this helps

Hi guys, thanks for your feedback and sorry for the delayed answer, I was travelling for a few days.
I will have a look at Toxedo computers, @alpinejohn.
Regarding the barebones computers, @wolfman, I had seen these small barebone computers but I had assumed (maybe naively) that these were mini-PCs that would be either not powerful enough or without enough cooling capacity to run Steam games. I will have a look. If they fit the minimal hardware requirements of a Steam machine and seem to be efficiently cooled down, I guess that should do it.

You can get a barebones PC in any shape or form if you look around, they are not just restricted to mini PC’s!.
