Appearance changes don't show immediately - Ugly animation minimizing windows

Hi! I used to be a big GNOME fan until the Gnome3/Unity crazyness started. After that I became an Xfce refugee. Now I’m painfully relearning to do things the way they used to be done in Lucid Lynx. I’m using Ubuntu MATE 15.04 Beta1 in a VMWare virtual machine. I’ll like to ask for some advice on the following—

Why Ubuntu MATE doesn’t update Appearance changes at once like Mint MATE? It is awful to have to reboot to see a change in window decorations or icon themes!

How do you get rid of the UGLY animation of a shrinking empty black rectangle when minimizing windows? I remember you had to tweak some metacity settings in gconf-editor (or something like that) but don’t remember exactly how it was or how is it done now.

How do you avoid the Grub start menu and go directly to login screen? How do you set screen resolution for login screen?

Thank you in advance.

You shouldn’t need to reboot to have the appearances take effect. At the most it should be logging out and back in

I believe there is a bug that does require log out and log in.

@mark1961 There are glib compatibility issues in 15.04 Beta 1 that I describe in the release notes. The release notes also describe how to enable a PPA to fix the issue, and others like it, that you’ve observed.

These issues have been fixed upstream and are in the process of being uploaded to the official Ubuntu archive.

OK, got it. My bad, I should have RTFM. Keep the good work and thank you very much for this amazing distro!
