Apple LaserWriter Pro 630 unable to print from Ubuntu MATE

i am getting an error from apple laserwriter pro 630 when printing from my laptop it is as follows when trying to print a test page from the printer settings dialogue. this is after it spits out a blank page.

ERROR:

OFFENDING COMMAND:

STACK:

i should say i have this printer working on 5 other computers
iMac g4 osx 10.5.? cups version 1.3.x
windows 7 x64 and 10 x64 (using windows xp driver from x64 install disk)
windows server 2003 r2 (hosts the printer on the network for all the other computers)
linux mint 13 (all updates installed)

anyhelp would be appreciated

Hi @rydell,

did you follow step 5 here?:

http://printersquestions.com/How-to-install-Apple-LaserWriter-Pro-630-on-Ubuntu.html

yes i did and tried both ways of installing, via cups web configuration and the add printer utility for the laptop. i did it the same way on the linux mint system.

i am going to try a live cd in vm see if its just my install

also i should note that i tried the PPD included with ubuntu mate, one off openprinting.org, and the windows xp PPD.

from what little i can find it looks like something is wrong with postscript because the error seems to come from printer itself. the printer starts printing before the document ha finished being sent from the print query.

UPDATE: tried live cd of Ubuntu mate and linux mint both have issues with the printer which appears to be the printer not understanding the postscript it is receiving. on that note i will be working through this list to try and nail down the issue https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems will update with results
