I have just installed 24.04.3 on a new NvMe drive with my home folder from a previous version of Mate on a separate evo ssd. I have a dual monitor setup. Everything is fine apart from Evolution opens on the second screen and no amount of trying to tweak the settings can I move it to the primary. Is it me, or embarrassingly what am I missing.
start evolution on the primary, then close it.
It should remember this setting and re-open in the primary monitor.
Thanks, the trouble is I cant seem to open it on the primary it defaults to the secondary. How do you open it on the primary?
Try to drag its window onto primary screen and close it there.
Hi,
I've tried that but with no success, strange really as all the other applications open on the primary.
May be it is worth to check ~/.config/monitors.xml file. It must contain correct <primary>yes</primary> parameter set for your actual primary monitor and <primary>no</primary> for other monitors. Logout required after file edition.
Thanks, that file does not exist on my system
A silly, but perhaps simple solution: Disconnect your secondary display, then launch Evolution. Failing to find what it thinks is the primary, it should now launch on the only screen it finds. It should then remember this setting and you can then reconnect the secondary display.
Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion, it kind of didn’t work then it did. I did what you suggested and disconnected the second monitor and restarted and evolution opened up on the primary. Moved a few emails around and shut down. Connected the second monitor and booted, opened evolution and it opened again on the second screen, I minimised it and dragged it over to the primary and then maximised it. Moved a few emails around and then closed it. Rebooted and it opened up on the primary. I can`t think how that has come about but im going to take it. So although your suggestion didn’t sort it it kind of did. I`m happy with that.
