I’ve used XFS for a long time since it doesn’t get bogged down like Ext4 does when the system is under load.
Yup, I’ve also noticed that XFS seems to offer less resistance than Ext4.
You want a real exercise in pain, take a large NTFS formatted drive and connect it to a Raspberry Pi, then transfer large files around. The little 700 Mhz single-core works noticeably harder (with correspondingly slower transfer speeds) than with other, Linux native file systems.
