Are gtk3 themes supported yet?

Does mate support gtk3 themes yet? I tried to install Flat-Remix and it did not seem to work (from the gnome-look website.

What exactly did not work?

Installing from the appearance applet says it does not work. Try it. I have yet to get a gtk3 to work.

okay… I got some of them to work. mac os space grey and clear looks was weird. It installed but it is no listed in the list.

Can you give the link of theme you want to install?

Are you using marco or compiz? Try installing metacity and see if your theme works there. Please let me know what happens.

GTK3 themes are partially supported in marco, but still needs some love to be up to spec

anything on the mac os themes https://www.gnome-look.org/p/1241688/
or flat remix https://www.gnome-look.org/p/1214931/

I followed the instructions to install metacity and mutter, but I wonder if I installed malware… because it did not work. Is the ppa legit? I did not see the selection on the tweak for either win manager.

Woah, ppa!? You should just be able to sudo apt install metacity and be good to go! What PPA did you add?

If it doesn’t show up on the Tweak, run metacity --replace & in a terminal.

I gave the link to the web page I used because I did not now how to make metacity work after I installed it. I found that page…
In short, I used this ppa… is it legit? ppa:ubuntu-mate-dev/vivid-mate

Yes, that’s legit, but many years old (and probably without gtk3 support). I’d say uninstall metacity, remove the ppa, re-install from the current repos, then run metacity --replace & from a terminal

I did dist-upgrade too… mettacity said it was up to date

I did the --replace it restarted but tweak did not show up. However, it did say that it was using an unsupported wm

ppa was not added actually

Did you try loading the gtk3 themes? Anything happen?

There is no need to install metacity. I have just installed Flat-Remix-GTK-Darkest-Solid-NoBorder and it works. Just needed to manually choose window title theme because it was looking for Flat-Remix-GTK-Darkest-Solid( which is not installed) instead of Flat-Remix-GTK-Darkest-Solid-No-Border(wich is installed).
Mac os themes from the link don’t have metacity theme. That is why you can not set window title from theme, but it has nothing to do with gtk3.

And this brings new question. What do you mean by gtk3 theme? Because metacity theme(window title) can be part of it, but not always.

Answering your first question - UM 18.04 support gtk3 themes as was since16.04, but you can face some problems( mostly because of gtk3 version). Some of themes does not fit good to mate-panel( light text on light panel for example) and to fix it you need to ask author of the theme.

Also it is better to install themes manually by unpacking theme and putting folder to /home/your-user-name-here/.themes or /usr/share/themes

I have unzipped several files in the .Themes directory.
You can see the picture here from caja and appearance. They don't show up.

Just choose Flat-Remix-Gtk and it will work except the window title. There is a mistake in index.theme file. You can either fix it by adding the -Gtk to the name of metacity theme in index.theme file or choose window title theme manually through Customize menu.
Also you can write to the author of theme about this mistake so he can fix it.
