Backup MATE Drawers and Panels?

My Ubuntu-MATE desktop occasionally gets hosed , or mistakenly deleted, or I need to reproduce a set of panels in a new Ubuntu-MATE installation.

Is there any way to back up existing MATE panels so as to rebuild them, along with their drawers and drawer contents, links to icons, etc.?

It looks as if essential panel data is split between ~/.config/dconf/user (a DVariant database) and individual files in ~/.config/mate/panel2.d/default/launchers, but perhaps there are other elements I'm missing?

Losing panel or menu configuration is a PITA and it's a real time waster to re-configure everything. A backup utility for portions of a MATE desktop would be a real game changer!

Any help?

If you use MATE-Tweak to save your panel as custom layout:

Then both standard and custom layouts are saved here:

/usr/share/mate-panel/layouts

These files are human readable configfiles that are loaded on user request. You might want to save your layout as custom layout and experiment a bit after you backupped it
