Battery icon help in panel

I noticed that the battery estimate for how much time is left is wrong.
For example, it says "Battery(0:10 left)" but that's not true. I have 1/3 left of battery which would last another 30m to an hour or so.

Is there a way to make this more accurate or take it off so it doesn't show?

I tried:

  • installing TLP apci and a few other power management tools.
  • removing the icon from the panel (can't remove)

Software: Latest Mate version
Hardware: HP Stream 14 laptop

Any way to make the battery estimate more accurate or remove it?

Any way to add a battery percentage left indicator instead?

Thanks!

The battery-info is given to the operatingsystem by the ACPI which is part of the hardware/firmware of your motherboard/battery
There is nothing the operatingsystem can do about that.
This is not an Ubuntu-MATE problem but a problem with your laptop.

in other words: Your BIOS is lying to the operatingsystem.
either:

  • It is a glaring bug in the BIOS/ACPI
this might be resolved by a BIOS update

or:

  • The statistics that it keeps about the battery are gone corrupt.
This might be resolved by resetting those statistics.
Depending on brand and model you can do that by keeping the powerbutton of the laptop pressed for about a minute (probably less). This works on Acer and Asus laptops, maybe it works for the rest too. (There are videos on YouTube how to reset a battery for HP)
