Bringing my password book into the 21st century

Hi all,

I have a different password for pretty much every website i have joined in the past 5 years and so have been keeping a little book with the login info just in case i forget.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a program for ubuntu that i can use as an alternative to writing each password down in a book?

Many thanks, Matt

KeePassX is an excellent local cross-platform password manager.

I’ve been using LastPass for quite a while with excellent results!

does lastpass work offline on the desktop or does it need to be added as a browser add on?

LastPass vault is stored locally, however I believe it’s added to a browser, and should be installed while on line.

KeePassX is great, but KeePass 2.x offers some significant benefits over KeePassX: portable mode (run it off a flash drive or local folder), lots of extensions, and integration with the KeeFox Firefox extension.

Syncing a KeePass 2 database in the cloud + KeeFox will cover all your local and browser password needs no problem! It’s cross-platform too (I’m currently using it on MATE, Windows and Android),

Hi!

Personally I would chose free and open sourced KeePassX (planning to migrate there when I’ll have time or I’m bored lol). It’s a one click install from Welcome/Software Boutique under Accessories in Ubuntu MATE 16.04 and should work offline, you can watch/read some reviews.

I have used proprietary software (close sourced) LastPass for few years, on Windows it had desktop version, not sure how it’s on Linux as I have only used add on in recent years.

So it’s up to you and what are you looking for

That little book is your best friend. Buy a new one and copy it. Carry one with you, on your person. It’s hard to hack that.:sunglasses:

Hey Guys,

I see enpass in the Boutique now. Anyone use it? I like that it stores locally but still has browser extensions. Opinions?

Cheers,
