I tried using the Brother install tool (without really thinking about it as it had worked for another system) - I forgot that with the different hardware for the Pi it couldn't work. Now I'm wondering if an alternative route exists.
The printer is a DCP-J315W (wireless) printer with no wired connection option, and I've had it working happily with Windows systems and Ubuntu systems on AMD hardware.
Hi, how old is your printer? I just printed on my Brother laser printer via WiFi. Ubuntu just detected it like it normally does without installing. The printer is only 2 or 3 years old. I am on a RPi 4. I am running 20.10. I've used it as well on Intel PC with various Ubuntu and Ubuntu based distros.
Thanks for the comments.
The printer could be 10 years old - I've been using it as a home printer for 2 or three years.
The RPi Ubuntu-Mate install detects the printer on the network, but I lack the knowledge on how to get further than that (which protocols should work, and whether CUPS).
