Cell phone shows no directories

Previously when I connected a Galaxy S5 to my computer, it would show the directories.

Now it shows nothing ?

I want to copy music from my computer to my phone.

Is is showing as mounted? If you go into your S5 dropdown notifications, it probably says something along the lines of “Connected as USB for charging.” If you click on this, you can change it to whatever option transfers files to computer. Not sure of the Samsung wording.

I remember it being easier too, possibly something to do with an update.

I’ve had the same problem for a while now (starting 16.xx, both MATE and xfce) and haven’t found a good solution. Choosing “USB for file transfer” doesn’t solve it. I’ve installed ADB/fastboot and that detects my phone without a problem, and I use fastboot, so MATE is able to connect with the phone. Fortunately I’m running it on a Chromebook using crouton, I can transfer files in ChromeOS. A solution would be nice, though.

Have you tried installing an SSH Server app on your phone , e.g. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.arachnoid.sshelper&hl=en_GB or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=berserker.android.apps.sshdroid and then accessing this from your PC? I haven’t tried it myself but it could be a potential workaround.

I played around with this a bit, and using an ftp server (one that is part of ES File Explorer, paid app) I was able to transfer files from phone to computer, haven’t figured out how to do it the other way around (maybe install Filezilla on computer?). Should be easily doable, don’t have time right now. It’s pretty straightforward using the app(s). Looks like you wouldn’t want to do it on an open wifi network, though.

There are several SSH programs.

JuicshSSh and Terminus.

I need some more details.

I assumed that since it showed Samsung Android, it was mounted.

Using Solid Explorer File Manager app and Solid Explorer FTP Server (a separate app purchase that enables ftp in Solid Explorer) from Play Store on my phone, and Filezilla on my laptop, I was able to transfer files in both directions in MATE 17.04. It’s a little cumbersome, you’ll have to poke around in Filezilla to get everything set up right.

I don’t have time now to write it up, if someone tries it and gets stuck at a certain point, ask.
