I am new to MATE. For the life of me, I cannot see an icon to open a new folder; this is a necessity. I have seen where it talks re making a script to open a folder, but surely there is an easier way?

Right click on a folder. You get the option to create a folder under the one you clicked on. Good luck mark_bower.
That does not seem to work. I can go to Files>Create Folder or Shift-Ctrl-N and the new folder is correctly created. I was hoping for an icon as I was used to in Gnome-Classic.
Right click on the desktop and a dialog box should appear with one option being "Create Folder".
You may have a 'right-click' key on your keyboard to the right of 'alt gr'. Ctrl-F10 also works.
