Ok I’ve tried it seems everything,
the most common suggested solution is editing dConf editor

but NOTHING seems to work for me in 16.04.

Have you tried Control Center → Windows → Behaviour, where at the bottom, under “Movement Key”, you can change it from Alt to Super? This works for me in 16.10 with Marco/Compton.
Alternatively, in dconf editor you can find org → mate → Marco → general → mouse-button-modifier and change it to '<Super>'.

Ok thanks. Pretty sure I was changing in the wrong place in dconf
To get this work, i had to log out and log in again.
