Have a DNS Leak with the VPN i am actually using;not sure if the VPN is not good enough for Open VPN or if is an issue related to some other things ... the only thing i know is that i did recently notice that i do have a DNS Leak ...
tech support from NordVPN told me that i need to add ''sudo nano /etc/resolv.conf'' then Add this and save:
nameserver 162.etc...
nameserver 78.etc.....
Then he said ''you need to add the DNS servers after your main nameserver''line but he dont know how i should do that ...just can see a blinking # in the terminal at the beginning.
Any ideas on how to add the servers he told me i do need to add ???
Or should i need to find another VPN provider ???
P.s i did add the nameservers (copy n' paste it) beside the # but i think doesn't works ...(see screenshots) anyway, see no option to save
I use Nord VPN now and found this post. I donât know the answer but I will check when I get home to see if I have a leak also. I hope to follow this post to see if there is a resolution. One question I would like to ask you though, is did you get the connection setup to where you do not have to use the terminal to connect to a Nord server? I can only do so by the terminal. I have tried many things but nothing so far has allowed me to connect via a configured auto connect setup. Thanks!!
I also use Nord and my DNS servers seems to be in place. Once you enter these DNSâes, check if they remain while not connected to VPN. Maybe for some reason they canât be saved. Have you tried changing them via Network Manager?
Thanks for the reply back @Zwee ,i see that there is an option to click for ââsaveââ with a key icon,i thought it would ask me for my password but didnât ⌠i guess youâre right and for some reason are not saved but either are deleted, are still there when i click on 'âedit connectionsâ'feature i see their addresses.
Will try with Network Manager or sadly will need to pay back again for another provider âŚ
Thanks for your comment !!!
Hi @mrjoeyman as i understand you been trying to connect automatically to a nordvpn server right ??? well, that is not possible,i did ask the same question to live tech support and they told me you have to do the connection manually via the terminal
"DNSCrypt is a protocol that authenticates communications between a DNS client and a DNS resolver. It prevents DNS spoofing. It uses cryptographic signatures to verify that responses originate from the chosen DNS resolver and havenât been tampered with. "
It works! The only thing that I did differently was yesterday I updated to the latest beta version of Mate. I have no idea if this is why it works now or not though. I could have done something wrong previously but I can tell you it works. I click on the vpn connection that I created and boom connection. Of course you know that an easy way to see if you are connected is to go to Nord's page and look at the top right for confirmation. Hope this helps.
@mrjoeyman,i really need to upgrade my Mate version to the latest one to see if the issue persist cause nord vpn live support sucks !!!
In my opinion is not a good idea to confirm your status as ââsecuredââ at nord vpn main site cause i think itâs a conflict of interest,i mean, they can say that you are protected but maybe you are not.The best way to see if you are connected is checking IPleak or DNS leak and even see if you got leaks.
Glad to see that your issue was already solve
@Sexybaldguy does the issue persists when trying to add your DNS servers via Network Manager? By the way, can you put and save any other DNSâes, i.e. OpenDNS? Try 208.67.222.222 ¡ 208.67.220.220 just for testing.
Sorry for the late reply, been really busy ...
I will need to try with Network manager way but if the VPN is good enough it should work both ways:with the terminal and with network manager.
I been reading a lot about this issue and a guy said that anyone can join the forums / community from AIR vpn cause they are the masters of vpn, lol, that's what https://www.bestvpn.com/ guys did suggest me to purchase.
I did read that to fix the WEBRTC issue showing on AIR VPN IP Leak page you just need to type about:config on the Mozilla Firefox web browser, click enter then disable media.peerconnection.enabled true to false double clicking on it.On Safari or IE browsers there is no such issue.
You mean in addition to the servers from nord vpn that i have already i can add this servers : 208.67.222.222 ¡ 208.67.220.220 where does these DNS came from ???
You shouldnât worry about WebRTC, that leak only occurs on Windows browsers. These DNS servers I mentioned are provided by OpenDNS. Try using them instead of Nordâs just to check if the issue persists. You should be able to connect via terminal just fine, what I am suggesting is to set these DNS addresses via Network Manager instead of editing resolv.conf file.
I did read a lot about the WebRTC and i did disabled it from the Mozilla Firefox configuration to have peace of mind cause paranoia is like my second name
I am using some DNS servers that tech support gave to me to put them in the network manager connections instead of the ones from Nord VPN;are the same you are giving to me : 208.67.222.222 ¡ 208.67.220.220
My issue about the WebRTC are solved as same as the DNS Leak from all the DNS test page iâve tried, but just works if i use Tor browser which is not something bad but as you know Tor is for anonimity & privacy and some things are unabled to do with Tor,so i need to learn to set up Nord Vpn via Network Manager too if i need to use Mozilla.
Thanks a lot for your help,it is great to learn step by step, little by little the set up of Ubuntu Mate.
Ubuntu is like a god for me now oh my god Ubuntu !!! lol
I did set the open vpn servers in the network manager instead of the ones from nord vpn.
Take a look at the screenshot, anyway,i still have the DNS Leak with Mozilla Firefox, just dont have it if i use Tor Browser which is a little bit faster now after some updates.
I think next year to try https://privatoria.net/ ,did talk to the guys and it looks it can works good and is not expensive
ProtonVPN doesn't just protect your browsing traffic, we also protect your DNS queries. By routing your DNS queries through the encrypted tunnel and not relying on third party DNS providers, we ensure that your browsing activity cannot be exposed by leaks from DNS queries."
I did stop using that NordVPN long time ago âŚi feel they did steal my money âŚnot recommended guys, even they sent me an e-mail telling me that my suscription has ended âŚscoundrel thieves !!!
I will give ProtonVPN a try just because i see they are located in Switzerland out of reach of EU and US.
