I’m running Ubuntu MATE 17.10 and this is the first time trying the Solaar app. Searching the web was no help, not much can be found about this app in terms of support. My goal is to use the auto-scrolling feature of my Logitech mouse M510, and the Solaar app is suppose to enable this function. After installing this app at first it does detect the Unifying receiver and automatically pairs to the mouse and identifies it, shows battery level, and allows me to enable the auto-scroll feature in the menu, but the feature still does not work, and even worse after a few minutes (5-15appox.??) the Solaar app loses the connection with the receiver!? Only way to get it back is to right click the icon-quit the app then reopen Solaar app, it then reconnects to the receiver and after a little while it loses the connection again!! So has anyone else experienced this or can help to fix this? Thank You for any suggestions and I will try to answer any questions that you have for me.
Yes. v0.9.2 Doesn’t do much for me beyond show battery level, as device is fairly basic. Had loaded because I was going to get a keyboard and wanted to be able to pair a 2nd device. But in end was put off by number of problem reports on connection issues.
I do remember similar issues when first installing and loading by menu/terminal, but it sorted itself out when it loaded automatically following a reboot (vs loading by executing the app from the menu).
There are some manual install instructions on their site, which reference permission issues, which would be consistent with above behaviour (ie group membership needs to happen).
Did you install from the U-M repository? If not might be worth a try.
Yes I did install from U-M repository, also tried re-installing but still has the same issues.
Please see below for more info, I’ve only used solaar for setting up a wireless mouse and keyboard -
Thanks for your help. I’ve looked at the manual instructions and I think that might work, I want to try it, but the steps in the instructions don’t seem clear to me, I’m still new to Ubuntu and learning. These manual instructions seem to be for “to do a one-time udev rule installation to allow access to the Logitech Unifying Receiver”. For starters there are requirements, do I meet them? Then it looks like theres an automatic installation of this rule then a manual installation of this rule. And I can’t figure out how to do either one of them. I’m sure this is easy as walking across the room for some of you. But a little help here would be greatly appreciated.
You have two problems, not one. Solaar is/should be used to pair wireless devices with a Unifying receiver. The scrolling feature of your mouse needs to be investigated on its own, not combined with running Solaar as an app, even though it appears to help your mouse perform as desired.
You must’ve seen this - https://askubuntu.com/questions/905269/logitech-unified-receiver-mouse-m510-ee-failed-to-load-module-mouse-module/905278#905278

Good luck 123nad.
I’ve come to the conclusion that the Solaar app is not needed and almost useless except for the battery level tray icon, but only when the app is working. All I wanted to do was use the Auto-Scrolling feature of the mouse while in the web browser, and the Solaar app does have buttons to turn this feature on and off within the app. But I found out that the reason my auto-scroll was not working was because in the Preferences section of my web browser the “Use Smooth Scrolling” box was checked and when I switched it to “Use autoscrolling” the feature is now working. So now I can auto scroll and I guess there’s no need for Solaar. I also found out that if I go to the “Applications” tab on the desktop go down to “System Tools” and over to “System Profiler and Benchmark” with this window open under “Devices” then “Input Devices” in the list Ubuntu already recognizes that I’m using the Logitech unifying wireless receiver and even lists my Logitech M510 mouse. So I am going to uninstall Solaar and as far as I’m concerned case closed.
