Favourite Ubuntu Codenames - Past, Present and Future

Although deciding the Ubuntu codenames is more Canonical’s decision, I think it’s still fun to have a thread dedicated to what you think are the best codenames so far and which ones you’d like to see in future releases.

My favourites so far:

  • Xenial Xerus
  • Precise Pangolin
  • Lucid Lynx

My wishlist:

  • Prancing Pony (everyone who has read The Lord of the Rings is going to love that one)
  • Distinguished Duckling
  • Poetic Panda
  • Beaming Baboon
  • Fluffy Fennec
  • Learned Lion
  • Speedy Sloth

I think “Bashful Bear”, or “Omnipotent Ocelot” would be pretty cool…

I always loved Hardy Heron, mostly because of the awesome wallpaper & t-shirt..

I do love that heron artwork, but I have to mention Yakkety Yak, mostly because of Mark Shuttleworth’s blog post announcing the name, which I will quote in its entirety:

Yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yakkety yak. Naturally :slightly_smiling_face:

I really liked Trusty Tahr, even though back then I was using Edubuntu just to have gnome-session-fallback by default.
The reason for that is that it was in my opinion one release that really deserved to be labeled “Trusty”. It’s still used in my university today for our student workstations.
