Firewire in 20.04

I am trying to connect an apple firewire to thunderbolt2 and thunderbolt2 to thuunderbolt3 adapter to a NUC thunderbolt port. In doing research it seems there are others who have asked this question without an answer. The desire is to copy many DV tapes into the computer using dvgrab.

Computer is NUC10i7FNK. 2.0.04 Mate

The computer recognizes the thunderbolt 2 to 3 -

Bus 001 Device 010: ID 05ac:1657 Apple, Inc. Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter

but not the firewire to thunderbolt adapter -

cat /sys/bus/thunderbolt/devices/

0-0 domain0

$ cat /sys/bus/thunderbolt/devices/0-0/device_name
NUC10FNB

Which is the NUC thunderbolt the only device displayed. If the firewire device was recognized it would show as device_name - "Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter"

I am not sure where to go from here. It seems others have been able to do this -

I have installed libraw1394-11, libraw1394-tools, libraw1394-dev but I have no idea how to use them or if they are even needed. I do see that there is no longer a raw1394 kernel module.

Unfortunately this is probably something that could be done in Windows more easily? But I don't have the capability to do that.

Anyone have any ideas?

This article might put the nail in the coffin for the NUC -
