Future of 14.04 series

Hi

I have some questions regarding future development and maintenance of ubuntu mate 14.04.

  1. As we all know 14.04 is the last unnoficial release of ubuntu mate (technically it arrived after 14.10 and offered certain improvements). Will there be a possibility of upgrade from 14.04 to any official version (15.04 or 16.04LTS)?
  2. Is 14.04 in a complete freeze or are we to expect improvements to arrive in it over time? By improvements I mean new versions of mate for example.

I installed this system few weeks ago and was thinking what should I do with my installation by the time 15.04 is released. Thank you for your time answering me.

The 14.04 release is planned on being supported until April 2019. I am not sure about upgrading but it will be fully maintained as of right now

I am aware of that. The issue I have is the fact that I grabbed “LTS” only because it was the newest ubuntu-mate release. I don’t want to stick with this system till 2019. I was just wondering if I’ll have a clear upgrade path or should I be ready for a reinstall in April.
