Geany tried to access the Unix Domain socket of

When I try to use Geany, I get

Geany tried to access the Unix Domain socket of another instance running as another user. This is a fatal error and Geany will quit.

Kindly share the output of the of the following::slight_smile:

cd ~/.config/geany ls -al

I found a “static link” there and deleted it to solve the problem.

Wonder what caused it?

I was using ssmtp at the time and had to force a terminal to close.

Did you try running it from the terminal?

Yes, I did run ssmtp from the terminal.

No I mean Geany, did you run Geany from the terminal?

I don’t remember.

I usually run Geany from a desktop icon.

I like Geany because I can try my scripts before “I let loose the Krakens.”

If at any point you tried to run Geany as root, that’s when the problem was most likely created. The .config file under your home folder should be owned by you, but running as root sometimes alters or fiddles with file permissions, which results in this type of message/error when Geany tries to check the ownership of the link…

This also might happen if your directory is a foreign partition, i.e. NTFS or something, which may not support sockets…
