Getting the old sound applet back

How can I get the old sound applet back that was in Ubuntu MATE 14.04? It had options for playing media and other cool stuff. I kind of miss not having that

Go to MATE Tweak -> Interface and check “Enable Indicators”, I think.

There’s two applets:

  • Non-Indicator - Simple vertical dropdown slider.
  • Indicator - Horizontal slider and media player integration.

:point_up: @ouroumov points you to the right direction. Beware changing this option will destroy any customisation made to the panels!

In dconf editor and then apps then indicators there should be a list of indicators that should be loaded . You should disable indicator sound . This is if you only want to disable indicator-sound and not the whole indicator stack .

Otherwise, right-click on the sound icon in the upper panel and you can select Sound Preferences. That’s the “old sound applet” you were referring to?
