sudo apt-get install apt-xapian-index
sudo update-apt-xapian-index
Viola!

Yep. Quick Filter all the way! One thing to consider that it may result in an overweight /var/cache/apt-xapian-index

I see 56MB on just the one pass BUT my Ubuntu-Mate 14.04 is up to 155MB but has a few added repos. It also sets up a cron.weekly update.
(I changed to a more suitable category - hope something doesn’t break. )
xapian cause some serious performance issues on lower power hardware, which is why it doesn’t ship by default in Ubuntu MATE
