Ubuntu MATE 14.04.2 LTS is now my daily driver OS. I like it a lot. There is only one thing about it that annoys me and that is the alignment of icons on the desktop. If you make them smaller and then enable “Keep Aligned”, they are aligned left and right but not up and down. Is there some way to make them behave more like the Windows desktop icons do? Aligned to a grid? Aligned left/right/up/down?
Looking around, this appears simply to be an omission in MATE, and you’ve done what you can by posting to the forum. I wasn’t aware of it because I have the grand total of one icon on my desktop
There are some dubious-looking hacks around using dconf-editor
but they are the sort of things that will break easily …

Done, but stupid settings only allow new users to post two links when only one is posted. It’s there as 441.

I am hating this post limit on links. It is on Mate’s GitHub Issue webpage as #373.
